What's The Hold up?!?

 Hey everyone! Alex Here just to give you all an update on the state of The Red Squirtle. As you can imagine the Corona Virus had a major impact of us being able to meet up and record our silly show. And so, as you can see, we're in a bit of a hiatus until things get better in the States. We may have something in the pipeline, but no promises there. In the meantime, I am reviving our Youtube Page. So please come like, comment, and all that jazz there. Thanks for bearing with us. The Red Squirtle is certainly no stranger to long delays between episode releases!

A Whole Mess of Write-Ups and a Single Trailer

Heyo. It's your pal, Alex, finally back to do some write-ups on the past several episodes. So lets get into it

Episode 43: Perfect Pitch

• I hope everyone appreciates the pun in the title...Ya know. Red is pitching Brock for mayor...It's pretty funny...
• In every new city Red gets to, we have an episode dedicated to exploring the non-plot related areas. What I like about this one we did, is we had a motive for Red to actually go all around the city.
• I hope the whole copy cat section wasn't too confusing. In the game, copycat looked exactly like the player character and it is implied that copycat is repeating everything you are saying...also she has a talking Doduo.

Episode 44: Dragon Brock Z

• I'm sure the reference is obvious in this one, but it's based on the Dragon Ball series.
• To hammer home our love of the Dragon Ball series, we used sound effects and music from the series.
• Annnndd surprise! Red gets another pokemon for his party! I hope you all like Hitmonchan.

Episode 45: Vocal Opinions

• Ever since we started the mayor story arc, I wanted to include Brock singing a rendition of Two Perfect Girls at the debate...and boy did we do it!
• I'm also glad I was able to retcon the whole reason Brock got arrested back in the early days in episode 5. Some of our jokes were just awful then...
• The song itself was a combination of two different instrumentals of the song. I wanted to keep the piano intro from the original but because that version kept the background vocals, I had to cut it and switch over to the jazzy version of the song. They're also in different keys so I had to down shift the jazz version to match the original version. I also down pitched the whole song in general just so Brock could sing it easily.

Episode 46: Brothers in Arms

• In the Red/Blue games, there are four Rockets who announce that they are one of four rocket brothers, They don't do anything but somehow they've always stuck with us and we had plans for them early on. Our original idea was to have them be Rockets that existed in the series already, but that changed.
• While editing this episode, I wanted music for the Youtuber Rocket and the Podcaster Rocket. So what did I do? I searched online "Upbeat Vlog Music" and "Podcasting Music" and easily found what I assume to be common music for those mediums.

Episode 47: Tri-Attack

• The original plan for this episode was to have both Blue and the Giovanni fight. As I was writing the episode, I realized that wouldn't happen.
• Once again my Friend Matt makes another appearance, this time not as a lead character
• In the middle of the fight we had a guy run in and throw out a Lapras. In the games, there is a guy who gives the player a Lapras. Since we didn't want Red to have that Lapras, we used that character as a gag instead.
• Our unofficial fourth member, Michelle, did not want to voice the Lapras in this episode, but we forced her anyway.
• The heroic music that accompanies the guy with the Lapras comes from Chrono Trigger, a game we often use music from.

Episodes 41 + 42 write ups!

Hey everyone, Alex here back at 'cha with another hot blog post. This time we'll be talking about Episodes 41 and 42 today. So lets get to it.

Episode 41: Tough Crust

• While getting ready to do this blog post, I pulled up the episode to listen to it again, and I realized I uploaded a 50 minute long file. When I investigated that, for some reason a sound effect was found at the 50 minute mark making it so long. So sorry if you downloaded that super long file.
• If you're not familiar with the old Pokemon games, The dojo was marked with "GYM" while the actual Saffron City gym is marked with "GYM GYM".
• The theme song for the pizza bed hails from Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney: Trials and Tribulations. It's called Beauty Hermitage.
• I had a fun time playing with the pitch shifts on the music in this episode to help set the mood. Every time something bad would happen. I would pitch it down 1/2 step

Episode 42: Revenge of the Brockisode

• So this episode complicates the Official Red Squirtle Timeline of Events (tm). So allow me to clear up a few things. Brock gets his job after his arrest in Episode 5: Jailbird. The week of events (fixing house, going to space, catching walking piles of gold) all happen during Episodes 7 and 8
• The music when the Rocket Grunt (which we affectionately named Pizza Boy rocket) and Manager John is one the first results when you search for dramatic music, perfect for our Melo-drama scene. One day while watching TV. I heard the song play on a commercial and I nearly lost my mind.

I hope you're all enjoying our Saffron City arc with Brock. Earlier today we uploaded Episode 43: Perfect Pitch. Go listen to that! I promise I won't be lazy this month and actually make a trailer for this month's episode. Enjoy!

Episode 40 + a Trailer

Hey-o Alex here again. So recently we released Episode 40: What if Squirtle was a Broom? and that episode was such a delight. Shall we discuss it?

• I think we've had the announcer say that Red is going to a new city a million times in these intros. Don't worry. One day it'll be true.
• Bringing back the vikings is something we've wanted to do for a long while. Before we had the idea of Red "completing his journey" and releasing all his Pokemon, we initially planned that Red would run into them during the trip from Cinnabar Island to Pallet Town. Plans changed and the vikings would be put aside.
• Incase you didn't know, the vikings are named after the characters from The Lost Vikings, an old puzzle platforming game.
• We also used music from that series. One of which is used in Heroes of the Storm, as the vikings are in that game too.
• To this day, we all still sing the glass of water song.
• I found the Holy music on youtube and while scrolling through the comments a lot of people were saying how this song makes them feel spiritually. Then here comes me with my comment that says "Aw man! This will be a great song for the Holy Broom"...but hey I wasn't wrong.

So I hoped you enjoyed that episode because I did a ton. So here's whats happening in the next episode!

So 9 years huh?

Happy 9+ years to our very old and slow moving series. To those who stuck around, you're old now. To those who recently found us...sup. Anywho Here are some fun details on Episode 39: Train the Trainer...

• Since our series is strictly the gen one Pokemon games (specifically Red), there is no such thing as special attack and special defense. It is combined into just one stat called special.
• The voice of Scott was based off of Sgt. Hatred, a character from The Venture Brothers.
• Another title we had for this episode was Red Actually Goes to School
• When Red is naming the Pokemon types that he knows, he mentions bird type which is famous for being a type that exists in the games data but never used.
• We also used the Maple Leaf Rag during the lesson on Pokemon stats.

And thus Red learns for the first time in 9 years. As for what happens next...well Let's just say later today there will be a new episode going up. No trailer this time around, but you don't need one anyway. Until next time

Episode 37 and 38 Write Ups + New Trailer

Hey everyone, Alex here, finally returning back to the ol' blog for some episode write ups. Between last post and this one, we've released 2 episodes and a blooper collection. So lets dig right into Episode 37: Operation Dew-Gone

• We had two different names for this episode, one being the actual name of the episode, Operation Dew-Gone. The other one being Noir to be Found. I thought both names were equally great. 
• When writing the episode, I hit writer's block. I got as far as V throwing out his new Vaporeon before putting down the episode for a bit. The original intention for the episode was to have them fight, but I wanted to do a little bit more than just a battle. Eventually that little bit turned into the entire episode and we scrapped the battle.
• We love to use music from other sources and boy did this episode give us that opportunity. We used music from Donkey Kong 64, L.A. Noir, and some generic Noir music I found online.
• If the ending seems familiar, it is because it is ripped directly from Rocky 3

So that's that. So Let's go into...well the same episode in a sense. Episode 38: The Red-con

• Of course Red and V have to battle! What kind of series would this be if we didn't have the battle?
• The joke about paralysis was part of a rewrite. We did a recording before this one that ended up not being great. So we met up another time to redo the recording and with that extra time, I added a few lines, including the joke about putting Squirtle down. In current recordings, whenever someone messes up a line, we joke that we may need to put them down.

Hope you all enjoyed those episodes. They were really fun to make. Now onto the main attraction. The trailer for Episode 39!

New Trailer and More!

Hey everybody it's your ol' pal Alex here with another blog post. Before we move onto the episode write up let me announce here our Soundcloud page. We have been uploading our old episodes on Soundcloud, but they have been slightly remastered so they don't blow your ears off anymore and the also include a small blurb at the end by yours truly. If you're interested Go Here. As of now we have the first five episodes uploaded

So next up is Episode 36: A Tale of Two Kings. Let's get to it.

• I wrote this episode in two separate sittings. This first session I wrote up to when Red collected the voltorb then I didn't know what to do, so I put it down. Then a few weeks later, I pikced it up again and wrote the whole Zapdos worshiping King character.
• Speaking of the king, my good friend Matt provided his lovely voice to our show and I think he nailed it!
• The title of the episode had to follow one rule ever since we released "I Met a Bird Once" Somewhere in the title had to have some variation of the word two. This is because of the famous Easter Egg where Articuno had the word uno in it, Zapdos had dos and Moltres....well you get it.
• For the first time since July of 2017, Red has his full team back together! Time to continue his quest!

Happy New Trailer Day!!

Hey everyone! It's my favorite time of the year! New Trailer day!...oh and I guess also a write up about Episode 35: A Slipper Situation or as I like to call it the episode where nothing happened

• When I was hyping up the episode to the other two , I kept saying it was the worst episode I had ever written. Needless to say I stand by it, but I also love the episode too.
• In the script, our nameless main character of the episode goes by the name of Star because he is the Star of the episode.
• To those who are privy to our early episodes know we referenced Episode 5: Jailbird, the one where Red gets arrested and escapes from jail.

Episode 34 write up + New Trailer

Hello everybody, Alex here with another write up and trailer combo super pack blog post. Let's start with last months episode, Episode 34: Gotta Clutch 'em All.

• A clear joke on the anime. From the name of the episode to the name of the main character.
• This episode continues the trend of removing Red from the spotlight and because of that, Taco Man is able to do other characters since he does not have every other line.
• This episode brought back V last seen in his introduction episode, Episode 19: V. Although he did have cameos in Episode 28: I Met a Bird Once and in Anniversary, Take 3 (but in that special his voice is a bit...off...oh well)

I hope you all enjoyed it. We had fun making it, as we bring the show back down to reality. So Next up I have a trailer for you all!

Happy 2018! New Write Ups and a New Trailer

Happy New Year everyone! Here's to a great 2018 for The Red Squirtle! It's nice to be back to the blog it's been a while. Without further ado let's review the last main episode: Episode 33: The Thirty-Third Episode We've Done. If you thought Episode 32 was strange, well we're just going all in for this here.

• Before the actual recording of this episode we had a long chat about how this affected our series as a whole. We described the series of being in several layers. The bottom layer is the story of Red and his Pokemon on this wonderful journey. The second layer, which we have seen a few times prior to this episode, is where the characters are aware this is a show that they make. So they'll have a director and Red and co are all actors, but they still live in a world where Pokemon exist. The next layer, introduced in this episode, is where this is all a show done by voice actors. Red and co are not aware of their existence. The next layer is one that emulates our real life, where it is us writing the show, but we know its part of the show and didn't actually happen in real life. Lost? Yeah so are we.
• I named one of our fake voice actors after a friend of mine who actually started listening to the show.
• This is also the first episode where we did a little bit of stereo play. I felt it fit in with a nightmare sequence.

Next we can talk about our Halloween episode: Episode H:Corrupted File.

• Clearly based off the popular creepy pasta where the player gets a ghost who can kill any character and Pokemon. A perfect tool for Red.
• In case you didn't know the song used for the montage was an instrumental version of "Another One Bites the Dust" by Queen. A perfect fit.

And finally our Holiday episode. Episode H: By the Fire 2.

• Just like the first one we did a few years back, this one had a rhyming section, a musical section, and a final story.
• Even though we released this around Christmas time, it wasn't completely a Christmas special.
• Recording the song portion of the episode was very difficult because we couldn't stop laughing t how ridiculous we all sound.

The Deal with Episode 32 + New Trailer

Hello everyone, welcome back to the blog. I hope you enjoyed Episode 32: Seven. It's another idea we've had for years and we're so excited to actually see it come to life. Doing episodes that stray from the plot line of the original Pokemon games tend to be some of my favorites (Jailbird, Vikings Awesome Adventures Part 8, the gym episodes and most recently Red Helsing and Seven) I'm sure if we strictly only did story episodes, we'd probably be close to being done. Enough with the intro! Let's get down to some fun facts about this wonderfully odd episode.

• All of Red's mundane activities were performed by not Taco Man, but instead Master of Rock. So from brushing his teeth, to eating cereal, to walking on grass. That was all Master of Rock.
• One of the news stories that can be heard during Red's Breakfast makes mention of a mysterious death that happened in Pewter City Museum. This is a reference to our second episode, Splashing the Cannonball. During our early episodes we had a running joke where someone would die at the end of each episode and a little girl died in the museum.
• I've gone back and forth on how we should end the episode. Would it be funny to have Red realize his mistake or play out the joke longer? Clearly I chose the latter

Episode 31 Write Up and Brand New Trailer!

Sorry this one is coming up a little late, but considering our past waiting an extra week is like nothing. So Red Finally got his seventh badge. He did it. He got all seven. Let's talk about his journey to the seventh and final badge.

• The questions are written verbatim from the original games.
• I had trouble this episode coming up with ideas for a game show our characters could play in. One idea I had was to do Wheel of Fortune but I had a hard time making it funny. When I thought of Chain Reaction, a lesser known game show, I started running into the same issue. Then genius (questionable) struck and I had it so Red never comprehended the rules to the game.
• The music used in the Snorlax Pizza Bed was found searching on Youtube "Stereotypical Italian Music" and wouldn't you know it, it was the exact song I was looking for.
• The music used in the TrainersOnly commercial used a song called "Wildflowers" By Time Janis.

Alright, now for the time you've all been waiting for. What's gonna happen next? Well here is a small preview of what to come...

Episode 30 write up + a new trailer

I wanted to write this yesterday, but I forgot...So Episode 30: Red Helsing is a very old idea we've had. The whole story about Red running into Dracula and getting drunk goes back probably about four years and I'm very happy the way it turned out. A few notes about this episode...

• We clearly embellished the journal entries, but we do have reason to believe Mr. Fuji wrote them because of the short anime series Pokemon Origins which does imply Fuji did write them. However, the connection to Team Rocket is pure fiction, most likely inspired by Pokemon the First Movie.
• We did retcon Mr. Fuji's old voice. A little too...Japanese if you catch my drift.
• In the February 6 diary entry we did allude to the theory that Dittos are just failed clones of Mew.
• About a year ago I bought a huge collection of collision sound effects and this episode got some good use of them.
• The music used in this episode was an array of Castlevania music plus one Ghost and Goblins song.

That's about it for interesting facts this time around. Now for the time we've all been waiting for, Episode 31 trailer!!!!

Who says we're dead?

Hello and welcome back to the blog. It's been a while...a long while....a really long while...but The Red Squirtle makes it's glorious return in 2017. For those of you who stuck around, I thank you. For those of you who just stumbled upon us now, I wonder how that happened.  So with the intro outta the way let's discuss Episode 29: Offer?

While it's been nearly 2 years for us, it's been only a few minutes for Red as he finally reaches Cinnabar Island and what does he do? He wastes his time accomplishing almost nothing. Honestly there's not too much to write up on this episode. Red is Red doing Red things and Red-ing around. The only things to take away from this episode is Red now knows of all the legendary birds and he met some unique character at the end. Speaking of the next episode, have a trailer!

Wait, how long has it been?

Hello guys, Alex here to give you your monthly* blog post!

Truth be told, I was holding out on making a blog post because I wanted to wait until we uploaded something (and it is true we have something in the works!). Due to problems that I'll explain when we get this thing done, we have to keep rerecording it. I should be getting my next recording soon and hopefully that will be the one! Other than that, I hope you all had a good 4th and I'm kinda glad no pokemon games were announced at E3 because we are not ready for a new Red Radio yet. Anywho, let's take a look at the last question I posted which asked What Red's favorite book would be. Let's see what the two of ya said!

B-Rad said "Red's favorite book would be A Glass of Water by Jimmy Santiago Baca. He didn't read it, he just judged it by its cover" I bet he sang while he bought it

and Mongo said " 'The History of GameShows'. How else would he win all those things?" Dumb luck. That's how.

For this month, let's get obscure! Anyone remember the character Annoy? He was in like 2 or 3 episodes. He has some unwritten history with Red and his job is to bring new trainers to the pewter city gym. What does Annoy do on his days off? I think he walks his family around the house like they are new to the house

April Fools!

Hey everybody! Alex here to give you an update in the world of The Red Squirtle. My microphone might be broken...so...that's an issue...but Mewtwo was released in smash! Also Master of Rock has a great microphone! But we can't make new episodes until I get a new one or this somehow fixes itself. I wanted April to be the coming back month...but that might be delayed for a little bit.

So uh...question time! According to you guys, Oak just doesn't read that much...but let us take a look at how you answered the question: What is Professor Oaks favorite book?

Ryan said "Obviously, his favorite book is "How to tell people not to ride their bike indoors from anywhere for dummies" . . . I totally did not just make that book up" I think I saw that on amazon

Snowstar (welcome aboard the Red Squirtle train) said "His favorite book is "The Guide to Reading."" We all gotta start somewhere.

This month's question is What is Red's favorite book? Because we all know Red likes to read...and we all know how good he is at it.

See what I did there? Hey everybody. Have you been enjoying Professor Oak's podcast? All jokes aside, Professor Oak's show should be consistent until we get actual episodes recorded. Every Tuesday, a new Oak episode will be going up. I hope I don't go through every pokemon before a new Red Squirtle comes out! That's really what has been going on. Now let's get to the fun stuff...the question of the month. Last month I asked "Red is commissioned to make a Squirtle Pokemon card, What would Squirtle's attacks be?" Let's see what you all said...

B-rad B. said "Squirtle 45 hp
Water (shot)Gun 2 waters does 45 hp
Ice Beam 4 waters 2 normals Flip a coin. If heads does 64 damage and freezes the opponent for 2 turns. If tails does nothing, but requires a mid-match glass of water break." Aw come on! Another tails?! This is like the fifth time we stopped this game!!

Ice Beam: 2 Water Energies, 30 damage, Heads Paralyze, Tails no paralysis
That other move: 5 Water Energy, Infinite damage, If heads the attack hits, if tails the attack does nothing" Does this make squirtle OP? I think so!

Dawson1441 said "I dont know much about pokemon cards but squirtles move should be that other move insta kill every time" The nature of that other move certainly has some deadly properties

As for the remainder of this month, the question will be... What is Professor Oak's Favorite book? Even I don't really have a clear answer for this. See you all soon!

Happy Mid-February!

Hello everyone. Remember us? I sure do. I hope you all do too. Hopefully, The recent Professor Oak Teaches Pokemon episodes have been keeping you semi-entertained recently.  In other news, I've been keeping Red Squirtle alive in my heart too in other games too! Let me show you what I have been up to! In Pokemon Alpha Sapphire, I've sorta made a Red Squirtle secret base. So go ahead and visit it for a little Red Squirtle love!

Sure, my character might be named Blue, but pretend he is named Red. Next, I've been replaying Earthbound and named everything based off of Red Squirtle. Take a look!

So...yeah. Let's go over January's question which was "What would Red's second wish be if he was granted three wishes?" Let's go over what you all said.

Ryan said "He would wish to be a member of team rocket, since he was rejected earlier by that grunt on nugget bridge." That is some old school Red Squirtle stuff there and yet...I believe Red would hold that grudge.

B-rad B. (nice new name) said "He would ask for more wishes"...but what would his first wish be then....?

PAPAYA the superstar said "He'd definitely ask for a good, roasted Farfetch'd!" But I mean who wouldn't?

Jacob Solomon said "He'd ask to have a Ratatta in the top percentage of Ratatta. He's played too much Gold." He does have to show that punk, Gold, who really is the best trainer.


And for the remainder of this month....Red is commissioned to make a Squirtle Pokemon card, What would Squirtle's attacks be?

Happy 2015!

Hello...you still there? I swear we still exist! some...some day we will return. In all serious-ness I do plan on actually releasing content, as pathetic that may sound. I have the urge to make more stuff. So you may see more Professor Oak episodes and the eventual return of Red and his crew. I can't promise anything, but I really do hope we can get Master of Rock back in town to do a massive recording session, That way we could have content for months upon months. For now, we only have episodes written, nothing recorded. I hope you all have been enjoying your holiday season. Not too long ago I got alpha sapphire and I am working to get a Red Squirtle themed secret base. Keep an eye on our facebook page for that. That'll be all for news this month.

Recently I saw that there were some guests on the blog and a certain sour fellow had blog duties in November. He asked "What is the worst part about Red?" Let's see what you all said to that!

B-rad said "Red's worst part is that he won't ever get to play Smash Bros. Wii U" However, I think Red is a trophy this time around so at least he will be near the action

I thought him being an idiot was all an act and being crazy is his strange personality" You know we're not even sure what to make of Red he is just Red. Either somehow a genius or a complete idiot. Someone could write an entire thesis about Red.

Mongo said "The worst part about Red was his old Eevee" She certainly was saucy.

Fine! I'll do it!

Hey everyone. Your pal Blue is here and I guess they want someone competent to do this blog post. Alright let's see here...Okay so apparently we have begun uploading old episodes to our youtube channel once again. So I guess subscribe to the channel or something.... Next...wait nothing else is written here...man you guys are lame. Okay I'll tell you all a story. So the other day I was eating lunch. I was having a chicken sandwich and a salad. I could hear this guy complaining about something a few tables down. Being an amazing and awesome citizen I am, I asked what was wrong. He was trying to decide what he should eat. I told him to get what I got sand he did and he loved it! I am the best at recommending!...You want me to review last month's question? oookay. Let's see...last month the question was...? Are you serious?! Fine. What is the best part about Red? Let's see how you all answered that and I hope you all answered honestly!!

B-rad said "The best part about Red is he is still 10 after 5 years of adventure" Five years? It's only been like two days.

Ryan said "Amazing stuff" Oh ha ha. Aren't you a comedian! and by the way Red isn't amazing.

Mongo said "The best part about Red is his ridiculous luck, especially when it comes to game-shows or competitions" I'd say that's the worst part! I don't know how he can beat me every time! I try hard! But what does he do? Get by with dumb luck!

Logananimeguy said "The best part of Red is his best way to handle any situation thrown his way, and probably if/when he faces mewtwo i'd expect him to throw a pokeball and catch first try with full health then catch Fishy with the master ball (Also hired as a Red Squirtle Writer, it's such an honor)" There's a two? When did that happen? Fishy? Who is that? And he doesn't handle situations well! He just somehow gets by! I do a better job...

That question was dumb! I got a better one for this month. What is the worst part about Red? Be brutal and honest! I can't wait to see your answers!
